platinum and 18K ring, partway done
This is a nearly completed 7x11 ring, in platinum and 18K yellow gold. At this point I have only one more pass to complete the ring, but the platinum is work-hardened enough to be in some danger from further bending. I normally smooth and straighten a ring several times during this process, and re-anneal it, but with platinum it is necessary to reach such a very high temperature to accomplish any softening that the gold would end up as a puddle of molten metal. This ring survived, and is visible on the left in one of the matched sets.
